A note for parents
This is a classic Jan Brett picture book featuring a clever girl protecting her dog from mischievous trolls through wit rather than force. The story emphasizes intelligence, courage, and resourcefulness while remaining age-appropriate for young readers. Brett's beautiful detailed illustrations are a hallmark of the book, though trolls and a mild peril scenario create minimal scary elements.
