This is Martin's accessible children's fantasy novella about a girl who befriends an ice dragon in a medieval world. While it contains some war and loss appropriate to its fantasy setting, it emphasizes friendship, courage, and compassion over graphic content. The emotional tone is bittersweet but ultimately empowering, making it suitable for upper-elementary to early-teen readers.
