What it offers
A note for parents
This is a Disney villain retelling that explores Ursula's backstory from The Little Mermaid with emotional depth and moral complexity. The story focuses on character development and understanding how someone becomes villainous, which offers nuance but also touches on betrayal, loss, and darker themes. It's appropriate for older middle-grade and YA readers comfortable with emotionally mature narratives, though some scary or sad moments exist.
